At the end of this year, TIK d.o.o. will celebrate the 60th anniversary of manufacturing a wide variety of disposable medical devices. The sixtieth fiscal year is marked by some important milestones that will enable us to realize our vision of becoming a recognized European manufacturer and developer of disposable medical devices. Currently, our main goal is to optimize the company’s business activities in order to ensure its competitiveness on the Slovenian, European and global markets. In particular, we would like to present two important milestones that are critical to achieving this goal and fulfilling our vision.
We are very proud that 2019 saw the merger of the ownership of the company into the renowned Slovenian group Postojnska jama, with Postojnska jama d.d. and Marjan Batagel at the top. The consolidation of ownership will undoubtedly contribute to more efficient corporate governance and, thus, to the more successful operation of the company. The new owner actively supports the setting and achievement of ambitious goals and the fulfilment of our vision to become an important player in the European market.
Based on sixty years of experience in the business, the decision to concentrate on research and development and thus on the airing of the production program is ripe. In 2020, we will stop producing certain products (the list is below), for a number of reasons – most notably that we want to use more energy and resources for research and development. In addition to manufacturing, we also (and above all) want to become a development company that offers technologically advanced high value-added products, in view of the stricter requirements of the new MDR directive that will come into force in May 2020.
The Research & Development team at TIK d.o.o. is therefore committed to using its own knowledge to continuously develop and place innovations in the production of high-quality medical devices that assist in life (gynaecology program), save it (respiratory therapy program, gastroenterology) and improve its quality (urology program). This is exactly what our development vision is about. Our efforts are also confirmed by the various awards, such as the GZS Silver Award for Innovation that we received in 2018, together with the contractor, for a new catheter dipping line.
Our most important program at present is the greencath® brand catheters, which we have developed in recent years with a great deal of knowledge, effort, time and money, particularly with the aim of offering users a high-quality and user-friendly self-catheterization catheter. The marker and its users confirm that we have succeeded in this.
In recent years, the company has invested heavily in modernizing its own production. Over the last three years, more than 3 million euros have been made available for this purpose. This year we will add more than 1.4 million euros to the production of a new, additional clean room (work is expected to be completed by the end of this year) and an additional catheter dipping line, which will go into operation in 2020. This enables us to meet all the forecasts regarding the increase in orders from our valued customers, which confirms the accuracy of the route we have outlined. This is also confirmed by our business result this year: the company is highly liquid, operates with a net profit and has an AA + rating. Commercial banks that have financially supported the investment in a new cleanroom also place their trust in us.
We are also proactive in the wider social field. As a socially responsible company, we are starting to actively support various events of our users.
